Network

A home network is simply a method of allowing computers to communicate with one another. If you have two or more computers in your home, a network can let you share files, internet connection and printers.

Wired and wireless network service and support

  • Network and router installation and service
  • Network cabling and optimization (data and voice)
  • Network troubleshooting and repair
  • Network security and vulnerability analysis and solutions
  • Preventative maintenance
  • Network cleanup and performance optimization
  • Network administration

Wired or Wireless

Although the idea of a completely wireless home network is compelling, in most cases, a mixed wired/wireless environment will serve your needs better. The most obvious difference between wired and wireless networking is speed. In terms of network performance, wireless can't compete with wired networking, even when you compare 11Mbps wireless with 10Mbps wired. Even when a wireless network works properly, large file transfers are problematic.

Wired

Wired networking technology found today is known as Ethernet. The data cables, known as Ethernet network cables or wired (CAT5) cables, connect computers and other devices that make up the networks. Wired networks are best when you need to move large amounts of data at high speeds, such as professional-quality multimedia.

A wired 100Mbps network gives you at least nine times the theoretical network bandwidth, but pulling network cable might not be practical or possible in your networking environment. You can combine wired and wireless networking in a manner that maximizes the advantages of each, while minimizing the disadvantages.

Wireless

Wireless networking provides mobile users with laptops and handheld devices convenient access from any point within range of the router. Wireless networks don't use cables for connections, but rather they use radio waves, like cordless phones. Most wireless routers can be purchased with encryption technology for secure communications. This is an added level of protection to help prevent intruders from accessing the computers on a wireless network. The advantage of a wireless network is the mobility and freedom from the restriction of wires or a fixed connection
